Lakeshore Woods Q&A with Dr. Dale Bredesen
Lakeshore Woods Opens Cognitive Recovery Center Using the ReCODE+ for Facilities Program FORT GRATIOT, Mich. For the 7.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, the standard answer has always been the same: manage symptoms, slow the decline, prepare for the inevitable. A groundbreaking medical program is changing that answer — and it’s coming to Fort Gratiot in St. Clair County Michigan. Lakeshore Woods Senior Living announces the May 1, 2026 opening of the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center (MCRC), one of only two facilities in the United States that offer the ReCODE+ ™ For Facilities Program, a clinically validated, precision-medicine program for the reversal of cognitive decline. Developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen neurologist, Chief Scientific Officer at Apollo Health, and author of The End of Alzheimer’s Program and Ageless Brain the ReCODE Protocol addresses the multiple biological root causes of Alzheimer’s rather than targeting a single symptom. The results speak for themselves. Two published studies demonstrate that 75–84% of participants with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early-stage dementia experienced measurable improvement in cognition on the ReCODE program. A 2025 randomized controlled trial the first of its kind found ReCODE produced statistically significant improvements in memory, executive function, processing speed, and overall cognition, with an effect size 600% greater than the leading FDA-approved Alzheimer’s drug. Participants also showed improved blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, and cholesterol levels. “This isn’t about false hope,” said Steve Larsen, founder of MCRC and Lakeshore Woods. “It’s about giving families a real chance — evidence-based, science-backed, and deeply personal.” A Program Born from Personal Loss The story behind MCRC is a deeply local one. Steve Larsen, a Port Huron area business owner, attorney, and founder of Goforth Group purchased Lakeshore Woods from the Barss family in 2018 and expanded it to a 78-bed senior living community in 2021. He built the MCRC after watching his brother, a longtime business partner and a careful, capable man, lose himself to Alzheimer’s. His brother passed away in November 2025. Rather than accept that outcome as inevitable, Steve channeled that loss into action partnering with Apollo Health and investing years of effort into building a program that could have saved his brother. “I watched someone I loved disappear piece by piece,” Larsen said. “I knew there had to be a better answer. ReCODE is that answer.” What Makes ReCODE+ Different Traditional Alzheimer’s care focuses on managing symptoms through medication. The ReCODE Protocol, by contrast, identifies and addresses the specific biological contributors to each individual’s cognitive decline including inflammation, lack of hormones and nutrients, metabolic dysfunction, toxin exposures, vascular dysfunction, and traumatic brain injuries. Every participant completes a medical questionnaire, detailed labs, and completes a series of cognitive assessments resulting in a comprehensive personalized care plan. The program offers a clinically proven curriculum of education and coaching support around the Bredesen Seven — Nutrition (including the KetoFLEX 12/3 brain health diet), exercise, sleep optimization, stress management, brain stimulation, detoxification, and targeted supplements. The MCRC at Lakeshore Woods will be the second 24/7 residential ReCODE facility in the United States, providing around-the-clock support in a compassionate, community setting.
