South Sudan: From Independence to Instability - Global Eye, BBC World Service

This week, #BBCGlobalEye is in South Sudan, one of the most difficult countries in the world to reach. Since gaining independence in 2011, South Sudan — the world’s newest nation — has faced ongoing challenges in achieving lasting stability. Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 https://bbc.in/3VyyriM South Sudan is seeing renewed fighting this year — rebels and government forces are once again at war, putting an already fragile peace at risk. To find out what’s really happening, the BBC’s Kalikdan Yibeltal travelled with aid workers on a rare mission to Jonglei, the country’s largest state. The BBC Africa Eye team has secured rare access to Puntland — a remote region in Somalia that’s become a key battleground for the Islamic State group. Reporter Sahnun Ahmed follows the regional defence forces as they take on IS and investigates how the group is remobilising to spread its influence across Africa. And from the BBC’s Global Disinformation Unit, reporter Reha Kansara examines how Iranian state media is using propaganda and AI in its coverage of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East — now more than two weeks since the first US-Israel strikes on Iran. 00:00 Global Eye, Episode 24 01:54 South Sudan: Life inside the world’s youngest country 06:28 Puntland: Is the Islamic State group reshaping Africa? 20:59 Iran: How the state's media uses AI in its propaganda Global Eye is a weekly programme from the #BBCWorldService, bringing you forensic journalism from all corners of the world by the critically acclaimed BBC Eye investigative unit - and features expert global correspondents taking you to the heart of the biggest international stories. 🎥 Watch all Global Eye episodes here:    • BBC Global Eye   🎞️ Watch more investigative journalism from our award-winning #BBCEye investigations team at this documentary playlist:    • BBC Eye Documentaries   📽️ You may also be interested in watching these documentaries:    • Shadow War: Islamic State Group in Africa ...      • Haditha Exposed: The case against US marin...      • Life at 50°C: South Sudan's Poisoned Flood...      • Into the Void: Putin's Foreign Fighters - ...      • The city no journalist can enter: El Fashe...   ---------------- This is the official BBC World Service YouTube channel.  If you like what we do, you can also find us here: Instagram 👉🏽   / bbcworldservice   Twitter 👉🏽   / bbcworldservice   Facebook 👉🏽   / bbcworldservice   BBC World Service website 👉🏽 https://www.bbc.co.uk/worldserviceradio Thanks for watching and subscribing! #BBCGlobalEye #Somalia #SouthSudan #Iran #Conflict #MiddleEast #BBCWorldService #WorldService
