Assisi Italy Walking Tour & Basilica of Saint Francis Assisi, Italy is one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and proved to be my favorite experience in the country so far! I hope to make it back to stay in this village for several days! In this video, we take a walking tour of the town of Assisi and visit the Basilica of Saint Francis as well as the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Assisi. Assisi is most famous for being the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi, one of the most revered figures in Christianity and the patron saint of animals and the environment. St. Francis, born in 1181 or 1182, founded the Franciscan religious order and is known for his devotion to poverty, peace, and compassion for all living beings. The town's Basilica di San Francesco (Basilica of Saint Francis) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major pilgrimage destination.
