La Carihuela, located on the southwestern side of Torremolinos, is a historic fishing district that still reflects its maritime heritage. A great starting point for a seaside walk is Plaza del Remo. From there, heading west leads to Puerto Marina in Benalmádena, while walking east takes you through the heart of La Carihuela, lined with shops, restaurants, and lively cafés. Along the way, you can admire Punta de Torremolinos, also known as El Morro, a natural landmark that divides the promenade, before continuing past a series of beaches all the way to Los Álamos. The route offers a peaceful and enjoyable experience by the Mediterranean. For generations, the people of La Carihuela relied on fishing, making a living from the rich variety of fish and seafood found in Málaga Bay. With the rise of tourism in the 1950s, the neighborhood evolved, and many locals turned to hospitality, opening restaurants and traditional beachside chiringuitos where visitors could sample the day’s catch. Although La Carihuela has embraced modern development, it has preserved much of its original charm. Traditional businesses, narrow streets, and an authentic Andalusian atmosphere remain at its core.
