Hwaseong City has linked the expansion of renewable energy with basic income policies through its 'No. 1 Sunshine Income Village,' established as a resident-participatory project. This is the first time in the nation that a solar power plant has been built utilizing a state-owned embankment. 24 village households formed a solar power cooperative to directly drive the project. The project cost of 520 million won was also raised entirely through the residents' own funds, utilizing credit union loans and village funds. The power generation capacity is 422 kW. The cooperative expects to generate approximately 100 million won in annual revenue and 70 million won in net profit. The profits are planned to be used for resident welfare, including operating local village buses, health checkups, community dining halls, and cultural and leisure programs.
