What you need to understand about dog training, whether positive or not, is that dogs are constantly making decisions and choosing between several alternatives. When you give a dog a command, they have the choice to follow it or disobey. These decisions will be good and bad for both the dog and the owner, and they won't necessarily be the same depending on each person's perspective. As an owner, and therefore a dog trainer, our role is to make the dog understand which decision is the right one and which is the wrong one. Making good decisions is like a muscle; you work and train it! For your dog to make the right decisions in a difficult situation, you need to know how to detect these good decisions and reward your dog if they do. This way, they will associate this decision with something positive, in this case, a reward. But I won't tell you any more.
