PART 2--- PURCHASE Sunnen AN-30 PASTE: https://goodson.com/products/an-30-si... This is the DIY process to recondition an "ALUSIL" (Aluminum-Silicon) engine/cylinders to a newly refreshed status. My apologies for the length of the video. This was my first time attempting and also recording this. I disassembled a used M113 (non-supercharged) engine and when degreasing the block, some of degreaser/water dripped down into the cylinders and cleared off the silicon(?) top-coating on the aluminum cylinder walls. PART 1--- This is the DIY process to recondition an "ALUSIL" (Aluminum-Silicon) engine/cylinders to a newly refreshed status. My apologies for the length of the video. I disassembled a used M113 (non-supercharged) engine and when degreasing the block, some of degreaser/water dripped down into the cylinders and cleared off the silicon(?) top-coating on the aluminum cylinder walls. Instead of paying $2,100 in labor and sending off the block to an engine specialist shop for an AluSil reconditioning of the cylinders, I found an AluSil reconditioning breakdown on the Rennlist.com car forum, and tried the process myself. I paid total of around $140 for the Sunnen An-30 silicon paste and tools/parts. This is the video breakdown of the process. The finished M113k (originally m113 block) engine runs strong with a great compression across all cylinders of 159psi -163psi and everything is good. This process can be applied for other AluSil cylinder lined engines (Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, etc) as well. Video was recorded 1 year ago, circa Jan 2, 2020 (sorry, I have been super busy). I tried to edit the video length down as much as possible. Hopefully this helps those in need. Synopsis: This Alusil engine bore reconditioning was done as I was transferring the internal engine components from my damaged(cyl #6) 2003 Mercedes Supercharged 5.4L S55 AMG "M113k" (k=Supercharged) Engine(~150,000 miles) to a used 42,000 mile 2005 Mercedes CLK500 M113 (Non-Supercharged) 5.0L engine/block. The Mercedes M113/k Aluminum engines have Alusil (Aluminum - Silicon) conditioned cylinders which aid in a creating a very low co-efficient of friction between the moving pistons/rings and the cylinder wall, while yielding a high hardness on cylinder walls. The Alusil coating reduces piston ring tension by half. On my original S55 M113k engine, a chunk of the piston in cylinder number 6 cracked off and gouged out a sizable chunk of the cylinder wall in that cylinder. Instead of purchasing a New AMG 5.4L M113k supercharged engine from Mercedes for $46,000 USD(no, that is not a typo/mistake...I said $46k dollars!) or a used-up, junk yard high mileage AMG 5.4L M113k supercharged engine with 150,000+ miles for $2,800, I decided to purchase a regular non-supercharged Mercedes CLK500 5.0L M113 engine for $300 from a used engine supply warehouse, and transfer all of my supercharged engine parts over to that engine block. I also bought 2 used pistons(1 extra spare) from an online car chat forum. So YES, you can use a NON-Supercharged M113 5.4L or 5.0L engine block, and transfer the internals from your damaged 5.4L AMG Supercharged M113K engine to save a ton of money and get your Mercedes running again. The cylinder bore between the engines are the same, the BLOCKS are 98% identical (please see video for 2 points of difference). NOT the pistons, cranks, or connecting rods...they are different. ------NOTE!! : THIS TRANSFER OF INTERNAL PARTS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE 4.3L M113 ! (Bore size is different!!!!)
