It was converted from a busy, traffic-heavy road into an Eix Verd (Green Axis)—a pedestrian-priority street filled with benches, trees, and permeable pavement to naturally manage rainwater. It is a glimpse into the future of urban design! 🌳🏙️ A Modernist Masterpiece Open-Air Museum: As we walk down both streets, keep your eyes on the upper floors of the buildings! This area is ground zero for Modernisme (Catalan Art Nouveau). Wealthy families in the late 19th and early 20th centuries competed to hire top architects to design the most extravagant, beautifully detailed facades, making this entire neighborhood an open-air architectural museum. 🎨🏢 The Elegant Rambla: When we reach Rambla de Catalunya, you might notice it feels very different from the world-famous "Las Ramblas" located further south. Rambla de Catalunya is the elegant, upscale sibling. It is beloved by locals for its sophisticated boutique shops, beautiful linden trees, and much more relaxed, authentic atmosphere away from the heavy tourist crowds. 🍷🍃 The Chamfered Corners: You will notice that the intersections on our walk aren't sharp 90-degree angles; the corners of the building blocks are cut off (chamfered).
