I Talked to a Cirrus SR22… and It Answered!

What if you could talk to your Cirrus SR22 and it actually listened? In this video, I check out a 2007 Cirrus SR22 to check out one of the coolest avionics features I have seen in a piston airplane: Garmin Telligence voice command. This SR22 originally came with the classic avionics package for its vintage, including Avidyne Entegra screens, dual Garmin 430 navigators, and an STEC 55 autopilot. It was upgraded with Garmin GTN 750Xi and GTN 650Xi navigators, a modern audio panel, and Garmin’s voice activated command system. We walk through how the Garmin Telligence qualification process works and how to use the system. The pilot has to complete a voice training sequence so the avionics can recognize specific spoken commands. Once configured, the system can respond to more than 200 voice commands, including commands to show pages, tune frequencies, display messages, check flight plan information, and more. This was a fun look at how modern avionics upgrades can transform an older Cirrus into a much more capable and convenient airplane. For pilots flying earlier-generation SR20 and SR22 aircraft, this is a great example of how avionics retrofits can bring new technology into a proven airframe. If you enjoy Cirrus flying, avionics upgrades, Garmin GTN systems, cockpit technology, and real-world general aviation flying, this video is for you. Have you used Garmin Telligence or voice control in your airplane? Let me know in the comments.
