Warley National Model Railway Exhibition 2015
It's been a long time since I've been to a model railway show, but today's one was a real treat! We find ourselves at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition 2015, taking place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, where a selection of model railway layouts of all sizes and gauges together with all kinds of stock, equipment, spares and layout pieces, come together and are put on display for all to see and buy. Although the number of layouts filmed in this video isn't even half the number that were present today, I wanted to really demonstrate my personal faves, as well as keep the video under 1 million hours long. With that said, here's a brief overview of the layouts I filmed: 1. Karolina Falls: A representation of a Wild West narrow gauge railroad operated by small steam locomotives, I really quite liked this route, primarily for the water effects on the waterfall, with a smoke machine in the whirlpool providing foam effects. It also came complete with a dinosaur under a bridge! 2. Santa Barbara: My absolute favourite of the day was a small route depicting a modern day Santa Barbara station in California, not only because it evokes many fond memories of when I was back in California and would see all manner of huge freight trains and the intermittent passenger service, but also the huge amounts of detail put into both the trains and scenery. I honestly could have sat and watched these trains amble by all day, but sadly I had to move on! 3. Topley Dale: Based on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Topley Dale is set in the 1960's, and consists of both steam and diesel traction from that period in the form of Class 50 prototype DP2, the unique BR Standard Class 8, 71000 'Duke of Gloucester', and an intruding LMS Garratt! 4. High Speed Train display: As the title says, a collection of the legendary HST sets, as well as the Prototype set, in pretty much every livery these trains have ever worn, from the original BR Blue, to the InterCity Swallow, and privatisation liveries such as Midland Mainline and Great Western Trains. 5. I sadly didn't catch the name of this route, but it once again evokes some fond memories of my experiences with American Railroads. This particular layout is set in an American Midwest town deep in the heart of Union Pacific territory, where freight trains dominate. 6. O'Connell Street, Dublin: The main street of the Irish Capital, this route shows how this area looked circa 1940, where the age old Victorian double-deck tramcars worked alongside the early double-decker buses as well as horses and carts! The route even came complete with Nelson's Pillar, which once dominated the city skyline before it was destroyed by the IRA in 1966 with explosives. 7. Dentdale: A near accurate representation of a modern day Dent station and surrounding countryside on the classic Settle & Carlisle line, complete with many forms of current traction including Class 66's, Class 70's and a railtour by 60163 'Tornado'. 8. Connaught Road: Set on the Southern Region shortly after nationalisation in 1948, this route depicts many of the former Southern Railway classes of steam locomotive, including Maunsell designs and Bullied Pacifics blasting their way through what is based on a London suburban station. Overall, a fantastic day! Apologies for some of the shaking shots, but it was a bit difficult taking videos one-handed with people walking past and bumping into you! Enjoy!
