Lecture #5: EG1 and Sonic Sculpting with the Korg MS-20 and SQ-1

This is the fifth lecture in the series. The basis comes from a subscriber question regarding the use of envelopes in general and Envelope Generator 1 (EG1) in particular. I introduce the idea of time domain sonic sculpting and using envelopes as "sonic chisels" as applied to subtractive synthesis. I then give a review of ADSR as applied to EG2 and compare and contrast this with EG1 controls. Next, I demonstrate the use of both EG2 and EG1 in a teaching patch. Finally, I introduce a complex patch with no less than 5 "sonic chisels in the time domain." Thanks again to Jason [aka Entropy Disorder] for the EG1/envelope great question. This lecture relies upon previous lectures for much of the working content with regards to the MS-20 as far as voltage control, patch panel implementation and SQ-1 integration.
