Replacing a Broken MK7 GTI / Golf Trunk Latch

Will a $20 aftermarket trunk latch with an "incompatible" part number work for my 2015 GTI? The OEM part is $300-$350, while other aftermarket latches with the correct part number range from $50-$100. After breaking a $55 aftermarket eBay latch, I decided to give the "incorrect" part number a try.
