The Anti-Defection Law has come into focus due to the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra. In recent times, defections from political parties have led to the fall of numerous regimes in various different states. In order to deter the politicians for changing parties, the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution was introduced. The 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution talks about the anti-defection law and was designed to prevent political defections prompted by the lure of office or material benefits or other like considerations.
