The Doctoral Sword

The Doctoral Sword video! Originally posted on June 3, 2022, but accidentally deleted. Did you know that in Finland when you graduate with your PhD you need to get a hat and sword! The Doctoral Sword, a civilian ceremonial sword, goes back to 1840 and “is a symbol for the scientist’s fight for what he or she, in rigorous research, has found to be good, right and true” writes the University of Oulu in Finland. I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in the USA, but I still wanted a Finnish Doctoral Sword…so I ordered one!
