10 Rare Trees that only exist in Puerto Rico

Deep inside Puerto Rico’s forests are more than one hundred trees that exist naturally nowhere else on Earth. Some display enormous red flowers, others survive on windswept mountain peaks, and a few are so rare that most Puerto Ricans will never see one growing in the wild. These trees are living products of the island’s long geographic isolation. Some grow in the humid limestone hills of the north, while others survive in the dry forests of the southwest or the mist-covered peaks of the Cordillera Central. Their flowers range from brilliant violet and crimson to tiny white blossoms that can easily be overlooked. Their fruits feed birds and other wildlife, while their roots stabilize soils and help maintain the forests around them. Were going to look at ten of these trees that evolved within Puerto Rico and became uniquely adapted to a particular part of the island. #puertorico #boricua #trees
