This tree grows in tropical regions. It is more common in Asia and Australia. The fruit of this tree is sweet and soft. It can be consumed dry and ripe. This tree has a gray stem from which branches come out. The initial bushy sapling grows into a tree with time. It has rough, dark-green leaves. The small round-shaped fruits like Rambai, grow in clusters on the stem. Though the figs are bunched, their buds are separate. Unripe fruits are green while ripe fruits are yellow in color. The fruit has numerous seeds resembling mustard seeds. Many animals and birds enjoy ripe fruit and can be seen roaming around the fig tree. Besides, figs are spread at great lengths through their feces Two types of fig trees can be seen in Bangladesh. They are Devil Fig and Cluster Fig. The Devil Fig is more common in our country. Its tree and fruit are smaller and the fruit is inedible. Despite being rare, the Cluster fig is consumed as a vegetable in many places. The fig fruit is highly medicinal and nutritious. It is rich in dietary energy, vitamins A, B, sugars, potassium, carbohydrates, fat, thiamin, riboflavin, calcium, and iron. The leaves, fruit, extract, bark, and root of this tree are used for the treatment of various diseases. This beneficial fig controls smallpox, diabetes, heart disease, kidney and urinary problems, nerve weakness, brain strengthening, cold cough, abscesses (tumors), and bone structure. This widely spread tree is now endangered. It is an integral part of our ecosystem. But fig trees are gradually declining due to agricultural land expansion, deforestation, indiscriminate tree felling, and uncontrolled constructions. The animals dependent on this tree are also decreasing with this. If this continues, this traditional tree will soon disappear from our nature. Our ecosystem will be affected as a result.
