Beth Fletcher - Ffin y Parc Gallery

Ralph Sanders chatting to the artist Beth Fletcher about her latest exhibition at Ffin y Parc Gallery 14/02/25 - 08/03/25 https://welshart.net/ For her new show with us, Beth has made a collection of 26 intriguing and ambiguous paintings. The works are created in her studio from notes and sketches made while she is out amongst the landscapes of North Wales. Sometimes, the locations are recognizable, but more often than not they become transformed into something internal and mysterious. Rather than being the destination, the external view is the starting point for an exploration of a submerged inner world. A shadowy place of imagination, sensation and apprehension. The world she propels us into is a provisional, changeable place. There is movement, colour and texture. There are elements which we can resolve into landscapes: horizon, topography, weather. We find mountains, feel the season, recognize the effects of the tide. We make a world for ourselves, a place of beauty, of comfort and confusion, made and re-made by our memory, experience and expectation… Beth trained in Aberystwyth, and the varied landscapes of North Wales have long been a source of consolation and inspiration. She now lives near Shrewsbury with her young family. She has been exhibiting with us since 2013. Examples of her work have recently been acquired by the National Library of Wales.
