It was well known amongst the elite that Wu Quanyou received true transmission of Taijiquan from Yang Luchan. Wu Quanyou's two main students, his son Wu Quanyou and another student named Wang Maozhai, later split up to form the Southern Wu and Northern Wu branches of the Wu Style. After his son Wu Jianquan and the leading generation Yang family practitioners moved South, the Northern Wu Style School headed by Wang Maozhai became the prominent Taijiquan Association in northern China. Wang Peisheng later became the head of the Northern Wu Style Association, and thus was recognized as one of the most prominent Taijiquan masters in all of China.
