Strong winds, Heavy rain & GO AROUND at London Luton Airport, Storm Bronagh 2018
*This video has been filmed and edited by myself, Casey and is my property. This video can not be taken or reuploaded without permission from me* Hi all. With being in Dusseldorf on Wednesday, it meant I missed out on most of the fun in the UK with Storm Ali. Not to worry however, as Storm Bronagh was following shortly behind, and gave a battering wave to most of the UK, with Luton in particular receiving up to 40kt gusting winds. This gave me an opportunity to head up and film in such conditions, the first for me this season. We arrived around 12 noon, and the winds were around 35kts, they gradually increased as the video progresses, with some landings being more harrier than others. For much of our visit the winds were coming from a 270 degree angle, which meant for the most part the planes were landing in headwinds rather than the more exciting crosswinds. Still however, there were still some incredible gusts and it did make it quite challenging for some aircraft to land, notably the Easyjet A319 from Inverness which had to abort its landing due to windshear seconds from touchdown! In addition to the wind, an unanticipated heavy rain shower also crossed the airport, which we didn't see in the met office forecast. This particular shower bought very heavy rainfall, the heaviest I've ever filmed in, and low visibility which consequently suspended operations on the airfield for about 10 minutes. In result, the Easyjet A319 which aborted landing diverted to Stansted, and all outbound aircraft were held all the way down TWY Alpha. After the showers passed, aircraft began departing again, and giving a good hair drying of the runway - producing some epic spray! As you can see in the thumbnail! Some footage was quite shaky, as you can expect standing out in the open on a car park in 40kt gusting winds, it can be quite challenging to keep a tripod firm and steady while filming so I do apologise for any shaky footage in places, I did remove the worst from the final cut.
