Life may be finite, but the breadth and depth of one's contributions to the world can leave an eternal fragrance for future generations. Liang Jinde, a Tzu Chi volunteer in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at the age of 71, due to a bacterial lung infection. Having endured the pain of losing his wife and the torment of colorectal cancer, he once faced financial hardship and became a long-term recipient of Tzu Chi's assistance. Liang Jinde's life seemed bleak, but his exposure to Master Cheng Yen's "Jing Si Aphorisms" and "The Footprints of a Monk" opened a new chapter in his life. He put aside his grief, worked hard to improve his health, found work again as a recycler, and joined Tzu Chi. He actively participated in volunteer training, quit his long-standing smoking and gambling addictions, and, drawing on his own experience, helped other recipients overcome their difficulties. Now, though his figure has faded, his exemplary character of turning his life around and practicing kindness will forever remain in the hearts of Tzu Chi members.
