¿Bendiciones a parejas en situaciones irregulares? [Fray Nelson te responde - 38]

The approach of a recent Declaration from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, dated December 18, 2023, seems to suggest that, if we broaden the meaning of blessings in the Church, we can understand that even people in "irregular" situations may ask for and receive blessings from the Church itself, as acts of welcome intended to guide them on the path to a fuller Christian life. It is difficult to disagree with such a statement, but that is not the issue. The central point is that we are dealing with people who, of their own free will, are and wish to remain in an "irregular" situation, and who, from this publicly acknowledged situation, ask for a blessing from the Church. In other words, the problem is not that a sinner asks for help, but that this person, without any apparent intention of renouncing their situation, wants to be blessed with the clear purpose of continuing and entrenching themselves in it. One can see that the real problem is not whether these are "liturgical" or "non-liturgical" blessings; nor is the central issue whether the priest wears clerical vestments when giving such a blessing. The controversial point, it must be repeated, is that we are dealing with people who find themselves in situations that the Church has always considered "objectively disordered" (now somewhat euphemistically called "irregular"), and that these people, without any apparent desire for change, present themselves, as members of these same relationships, to receive a blessing. It is very difficult not to see in such blessings, whatever their theological label, something other than approval, and indeed, many media outlets have reported this extensively and triumphantly.
