A Arte em 1874: O Nascimento do Impressionismo | A Arte dos Anos Ep. 4
In the 4th episode of Art by the Year, we travel back to 1874, the year that officially marked the birth of Impressionism. In this episode, I tell the story of how the movement emerged, beginning with the Batignolles Group — the circle of young artists who met in Parisian cafés to discuss new artistic ideas and challenge the academic system. I also talk about the creation of the Société Anonyme des Artistes, the decisive step that allowed these painters to free themselves from the control of the Official Salon and the State, and to organize their first independent exhibition. I explore what happened in that historic exhibition of 1874, show some of the works presented, and examine in detail “Impression, Sunrise” by Claude Monet — the painting that became the symbol of the show and, unexpectedly, gave the Impressionist movement its name. Finally, I explain how the term “Impressionist” originated and how this exhibition forever changed the course of art history. 00:00 Introduction 00:59 Batignolles Group 03:59 Société Anonyme des Artistes 09:07 The First Impressionist Exhibition 14:07 Analysis of "Impression, Sunrise" Monet 22:05 Conclusion 24:24 End ✨ Art by the Year is a series in which, episode after episode, we explore art history by focusing on a specific year. #Impressionism #Monet #Art1874 #ArtHistory #Art #ClaudeMonet #Painting #FirstImpressionistExhibition
