Zoologico de chapultepec 2023
Today we went to the Chapultepec Zoo after the pandemic, and we can say that it's still a good option and free for the whole family. They'll have a great time. The Alfonso L. Herrera Chapultepec Zoo is located in Chapultepec Forest, in Mexico City, Mexico. Inaugurated on July 6, 1923, by Mexican biologist Alfonso Luis Herrera, it reopened in 1924 with a collection of 243 animals. It eventually became the most visited zoo in Mexico, with more than 5 million visitors annually. It has a population of 1,930 animals from 250 different species. Additionally, it has a herpetarium, a butterfly house, and soon, an elephant museum. [citation needed] It does not have elephants, which were relocated to the San Juan de Aragón Zoo. It is the second largest zoo in Mexico, after the Guadalajara Zoo. After the inauguration of the Buenos Aires Zoo (Argentina) in 1875, Mexico was another pioneer country in establishing a zoo in Latin America, as there are records of the operation of the Chapultepec Zoo since the 19th century, according to what historian Regina Horta published in 2019: "In 1890, Porfirio Díaz signed the commitment to build a zoo in Chapultepec to increase the role of civilized entertainment. Animals sent by authorities from other regions of Mexico arrived in the capital: bears, wildcats, eagles, jaguars, wild rabbits, wolves. Often there were no cages to house them and they had to be accommodated in an improvised way, as in the case of a shipment of animals sent in 1891 by the governor of Yucatán." 2 This confirms the data provided by another historian (Ramón Sánchez Flores) 3, 2016 4), obtained from newspaper sources (El Contempóraneo, 1899) and city government documents documenting the history of its founding on June 10, 1890, by order of President Porfirio Díaz. However, official history now indicates July 6, 1923, approximately 400 years after the destruction of Tenochtitlán, as the date when the cornerstone of the Chapultepec Zoo was laid and construction began on its current location. This controversy, generated by new information that has been made public, completely contradicts previously published data and shows that historical research was incomplete. The zoo opened in 1924. Alfonso Luis Herrera considered recreating Moctezuma's zoo, as he wanted to showcase native species to Mexicans, as well as other species from the rest of the world. The collection would include mammals, birds, and reptiles, as well as an aquarium. A botanical collection was located in the eastern part of the park, displaying trees, cacti, and even orchids. Herrera, a pioneering naturalist, is undoubtedly the person who contributed the most to the creation of the zoo. The innovative Zoological Garden and Museum of Zoology of the Municipality of Rome (now Bioparco Roma, in Rome, Italy) was used as a model. After several visits to the United States, Herrera obtained the first animals for the zoo: three lion cubs and two American bison. [citation needed] Native animals arrived from various Mexican states such as Sonora, Veracruz, and Campeche, and other animals were exchanged with countries such as India, France, Peru, and Brazil. This first collection consisted of 243 animals. In 1929, the zoo was included in the list of institutions subsidized by the Mexico City government. 56 From 1945 onward, the zoo was named after its founder and creator. Between 1950 and 1960, the zoo's sole purpose was to be a recreational facility exhibiting several popular species. Ernesto Uruchurtu Peralta, the city's regent during that decade, gave new life to the zoo by renovating the entire collection. Some of the animals acquired at that time were still in the collection half a century later. #zoo #zoo #chapultepec Want to invite us to your restaurant, cafe, museum, or business?
