How To Know If Allah Loves You : Secrets of Nearness - Dr.Shadee Elmasry

He explains that Allah mentions “the path” and “the ways” because the main road is one, but it has lanes within it. Those lanes are the degrees of devotion, knowledge, and extra worship that elevate a servant. He frames the purpose of life as the most important question a human can ask, and he warns that Shaytan works hardest to keep people distracted from it. The Shaykh then presents three answers for the purpose of existence, each from a different angle. First, life is a test: Allah created death and life to see who is best in deeds. Many people only wake up when they crash, through a calamity or through inner collapse. He shares a striking perspective from Imam al Ghazali: what people call depression can be viewed by the people of Allah as a hidden soldier that forces rest, reflection, and a return to deeper meaning. It becomes harmful only when it pushes a person into sin. Second, the purpose is worship: Allah created jinn and humans to worship Him. Worship is not possible without knowledge, because a person must know who they worship and what Allah wants. He gives an example showing how ignorance can block guidance, and how correct knowledge could open doors for people. Third, the Shaykh explains the spiritual path of drawing near to Allah: obligations and avoiding prohibitions bring a servant close, but consistent extra deeds elevate them until Allah loves them. He describes this as a path with milestones. When Allah loves a servant, one of the greatest signs is that Allah opens knowledge and love of sacred learning in their heart, making difficult deeds feel easy through desire and sincerity. He also addresses fear of being tested: Shaytan scares people away from devotion by claiming closeness to Allah brings trials. The Shaykh flips this: trials may increase, but protection increases far more. A small test can drown a person with no spiritual shelter, while a major trial can leave the believer internally unharmed because their faith has become a strong refuge. Finally, he highlights the power of companionship: the fastest route to righteousness is to be around righteous people, because your circle either lifts you or cancels your progress.
