PCOS w niepłodności - rozmowa z dr Dariuszem Mercikiem
Irregular periods. Excessive hair growth. Unbearable acne on the face, back, and chest. Weight gain, and waistline disappear. And what's more, despite strenuous, regular attempts at conceiving, pregnancy still hasn't happened. Unfortunately, it could be PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome. This is one of the most common endocrine diseases diagnosed in women of reproductive age. It's estimated that this condition affects between 5 and 15% of women. Do these women have a chance of conceiving naturally? How should PCOS be diagnosed and treated in the context of trying to conceive? Today, we'll be discussing this topic with Dr. Dariusz Mercik, an outstanding infertility specialist from the Gyncentrum Clinic. Thanks to his knowledge and experience, many women with PCOS have achieved desired pregnancies. Has anything changed in our understanding of the causes of PCOS? It's still said that research on this topic is ongoing and that the source of the condition cannot be definitively pinpointed. Where does PCOS come from in young women? What is it? Can PCOS be prevented? Is there any preventative measures for this condition? Does long-term contraception (hormonal pills) increase the risk of the condition? What other factors contribute to PCOS? How is polycystic ovary syndrome diagnosed? What are the Rotterdam criteria? At what age might the first symptoms appear? Can PCOS be cured? What are the medications for PCOS? Are there any side effects during treatment? Does a woman's age matter in the treatment of PCOS? Is in vitro fertilization (IVF) indicated for PCOS, and if so, when, and how effective is this method for this condition? Which hormonal test results can indicate PCOS? To what extent can diet help with PCOS? What is insulin resistance in PCOS? How often is PCOS accompanied by diabetes, and how are the two conditions treated simultaneously? – How to distinguish non-classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia from PCOS? What are the differences between these conditions, even though the symptoms may be similar? – What is the difference between PCOS and PCOS?
