Joy said she preferred the new version but went further than that. She labeled Dolly an anti-feminist. She didn’t like the original words about pleading another woman not to take your man. Dolly had been on The View before to discuss feminism. She doesn’t want to take the label or be involved in anything political. Her work shows she does believe in equality and empowerment. Look at films such as 9 to 5 and songs such as Just Because I’m a Woman. Her friends don’t want to make the controversy any worse than it already is. Reba McEntire, one of her best friends and coworkers, politely refused to comment. This wasn’t the first time Joy was involved in controversy. She received flack for the way she responded to a comment about there not being any attractive cast members on SNL. She said beauty would distract from the comedy. This is also not likely to be the last time Joy’s comments spark ire. She is a talk show host in the age of the internet, after all.
