At the presentation of the book "Stragi d'Italia" (Fuoriscena publishing house) at the Teatro Garbatella in Rome, Five Star Movement senator and former Palermo attorney general Roberto Scarpinato denounced "a piecemeal war" waged "by pulling three levers: constitutional reforms, such as the prime ministerial office and the reform of the judiciary to subjugate it to political power; ordinary laws that impact citizens' rights, such as the security package; and practices of power, such as the abuse of decree laws." Recalling Giovanni Falcone's words after the Addaura attack—when he told Saverio Lodato that "extremely refined minds" were behind it—the magistrate retraced the long trail of blood that, from Portella della Ginestra to the 1992-93 massacres, has accompanied the history of the Republic.
