Set Up Obsidian for Neovim Without Getting Locked In

Obsidian is one of the best note taking apps for Markdown, but if you set it up the wrong way, you can easily lock yourself into an Obsidian-only workflow. In this video, I create a brand new Obsidian vault from scratch and configure it in a way that works well with Neovim, Markdown files, daily notes, templates, snippets, images, wiki links, and other editors. The goal is to keep your notes simple, portable, and easy to move later if you ever decide to stop using Obsidian. I also show how an Obsidian vault is really just a folder with Markdown files and configuration files, then test the setup between Obsidian and Neovim to make sure images, links, daily notes, and basic Markdown workflows work correctly in both places. This is part one of a new Obsidian and Neovim note taking workflow series. If you are switching from Notion, Google Docs, Word, text files, or another notes app, this setup should help you start with Obsidian without making your notes painful to use somewhere else later.
