A Brief History of Brazilian Music (Henrique Eisenmann - Online Lecture)
“A Brief History of Brazilian Music”. Online open-class, discussing the evolution of Brazilian music through the lenses of struggling classes, in the midst of lots of racial/social tension and incredibly creative music. This will be a brief 45-min journey from the first Modinhas to the classic sambas to the MPB and Tropicalia. The class is divided into 5 social "spaces" that represent different periods of the history of Brazil: 1. The Slave Ships (precursors) 2. The Cabarets (Choro and Maxixe) 3. The Street Carnaval (Samba) 4. The Copacabana Palace (Bossa Nova) 5. The Universities (MPB) check out more lectures on www.henriquepiano.com (I’ll be providing some playlists, recommendations and Scores).
