Performed by Kamerkoor JIP www.kamerkoorJIP.nl Subtitles available in Portugues, English and Dutch Conductor | Jonathan Ploeg Video | Felipe Pipi ACORDAI Composer | F. Lopes Graça (1906–1994) Fernando Lopes Graça was perhaps the most important Portuguese composer in the twentieth century. Acordai is a protest song from the time that Salazar reigned. It is one of the Canções Heróicas, "heroic songs", a collection of Portuguese marches, dances and songs, collected by Lopes Graça. JIP Chamber Choir is a project choir from Utrecht, the Netherlands, founded in 2013 by brothers Jonathan and Imre Ploeg. JIP wants to present new and unknown choir music from all over the world, brought together in surprising, engaging and fundamental themes like war and peace, the nomadic life, the refugee crisis and the ecological crisis. For this project we worked together with the fantastic ensemble The Windsor Consort. We have immersed ourselves in the culture, language and music of Portugal.
