Once upon a time, in a small hamlet called Ndoso, there lived a beautiful girl named Nggérang. She was named Nggerang because of her fair skin and blonde hair. Nggerang was believed to be the result of a formal cross-breeding between a human and a spirit from another realm, known locally as kakartana or land, or also called ata pelsina. Nggerang's father was Awang, and her mother was Hendang. Hnedang, Nggerang's mother, was believed to be from another realm, or land, or kakartana in the local language. However, Princess Nggerang was abandoned by her mother when she was still a toddler, not because of physical death, but because Nggerang's father, Awang, had broken a taboo three times. For Hendang, that was an unusual number of times. This story takes place when Hendang went to fetch water. Nggérang, still a baby, was being looked after and carried by her father, Awang. Hendang gave Awang a message. "If this child cries, don't sing this song: ipung setiwu, paké sewaé, téu sa ambong (a small fish in a pond, a frog in a river, a bunch of sugar cane). However, when Hendang went to fetch water quite far from home, Nggérang cried. Then, Awang tried to stop his son Nggérang's crying by singing many songs, but it didn't make him stop crying. In fact, his crying grew louder and louder. Awang sang many songs, but Nggérang wouldn't stop crying. He only stopped crying when he sang the song: ipung setiwu, paké se waé, téu se ambong (a small fish in a pond, a frog in a river, a bunch of sugar cane). This forbidden song was indeed forbidden and taboo for Hendang, but her husband, Awang, didn't understand the prohibition at all. Awang didn't understand the prohibition against singing it.
