O'FallonTV: Ancient Mound | O'Fallon, Missouri
The presence of permanent non-Native American residents in O’Fallon can be traced as far back as 1796 when Jacob Zumwalt accepted a Spanish land grant. But, local archeologists and historians believe Native Americans may have inhabited the area as early as 8,000-12,000 B.C. Now , let’s fast forward to today. If you drive through Dames Parks eventually you’ll run across a strangle mound by the lower football fields. This oval shaped mound is believed to be one of the oldest ancient Native American mounds in North America.
