Denuding or Stripping your Eggs

DENUDING OR STRIPPING YOUR EGGS! When we retrieve the eggs from the ovaries and we search for them under the stereoscope, they look like fried eggs, where the egg would be the yolk and the cumulus cells surrounding the egg would be the egg white. And we remove these cumulus cells surrounding the egg to be able to assess the Egg Maturity and Egg Quality, as only MATURE EGGS can be frozen or used for ICSI. To remove the cumulus cells surrounding the egg we use two denudation techniques: • Chemical 🧪: For the chemical denudation we use an enzyme called Hyaluronidase. The hyaluronidase degrades the hyaluronic acid that binds the cumulus cells together. • Mechanical 💉: For the mechanical denudation we use glass or plastic pipettes. In both cases will use a series of pipette tips decreasing ⬇ in size. Once we’ve removed the cumulus cells, we can assess the EGG MATURITY. The eggs are classified as mature when a small cell, called the polar body, has been released and is visible. The MATURE EGGS are then washed and will be FROZEN or used for ICSI. 🎬 Watch the video to learn more about denuding or stripping your eggs.
