LEBANON: HEZBOLLAH FOOTAGE OF AN ATTACK ON ISRAELI FORCES

(3 Mar 1998) Natural Sound Militant Islamic group Hezbollah has released dramatic footage of an attack on Israeli forces in South Lebanon. Four Israeli soldiers were wounded when forces of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah -- or Party of God -- fired rockets and mortar shells at an Israeli outpost on Friday. Israeli warplanes retaliated three hours later. Plumes of dense black smoke rose from hillsides in the occupied zone on Friday as Hezbollah targeted Israeli outposts. An Israeli army spokesman said four Israeli soldiers were wounded and at least one Hezbollah militant was killed in the attack. Hezbollah, or the Party of God, is leading a guerrilla war to oust some 15-hundred Israeli soldiers and the 25-hundred militiamen from the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army. Three hours later, the Israelis fought back. Their jets bombed guerrilla positions. Two Israeli fighter bombers fired missiles at militant posts near Louizeh, a village facing the Israeli occupied zone in south Lebanon. Officials of the S-L-A said three Hezbollah guerrillas were killed. But neither Hezbollah nor Lebanese security officials could confirm this. Israel has controlled the zone since 1985 as a buffer against cross-border guerrilla attacks on its northern towns.
