MAY-A | Airing Your Dirty Laundry
In this episode of Airing Your Dirty Laundry, Daphne Berry sits down with Australian alt-pop artist MAY-A to unpack the making of her long-awaited debut album Goodbye (If You Call That Gone) - and the breaking point that changed everything. From being discovered at just 13 and signed to major labels, to navigating relentless songwriting sessions in Los Angeles, MAY-A opens up about the harsh realities of the music industry. She shares how years of pressure, panic attacks in vocal booths, and back-to-back sessions with hitmakers left her questioning her identity, her artistry, and her place in the system. After supporting Wallows, Glass Animals, and 5 Seconds of Summer and releasing her EP Analysis Paralysis, MAY-A made the bold decision to take back control. Cancelling sessions, stepping away from social media, and rejecting the “hit factory” model, she began writing her debut album from scratch with guitarist and partner Chloe Dadd. The result is a raw, cathartic body of work shaped by anger, betrayal, grief, and creative reclamation.
