In this video Maxx discusses what type of footwear you should consider for larp and shows you how to make a simple pair of great looking boots for your costume or kit for under $50. These boots are consider basically unisex, and gaiters come in different sizes, so this should work no matter who you are or what size you are. There certainly are games where you will want to spend $500 on a pair of custom handmade period-accurate shoes or boots. But for every other game, not required! If you play a very active game involving hiking, running, jumping, walking in water, mud, snow, ice or have foot problems, then welcome to the future! For any game that doesn't enforce period accuracy, then footwear is a great place to save some money, but still get an excellent piece of gear that functions well, yet can be camouflaged to still look the part. I start with a cheap pair of waterproof non-steel toe work boots from a local store. To that I add dye, spray paint, add elastic shoelaces to and finally topped with a surplus leather gaiter to create a fantastic boot look for under $50 and will last a long time, and can still be worn daily. The best thing about this type of footwear, is versatility. These can step right out of a medieval fantasy battlefield, off a motorcycle in a modern day vampire horror game, on a human face forever in a dystopian future, or on the deck of a starship lost in deep space.
