Today you'll walk with me along Rua Andrade Neves, the old and charming Rua das Flores (Street of Flowers), where each block holds memories, architectural rarities… and even a touch of mystery. We literally start where it all begins, on Rua João Manoel, next to a 1966 water reservoir that still supplies the Porto region. From there we follow a sequence of old houses with gardens, fountains, and details that seem frozen in time, reminiscent of the era when the street was famous for the fragrance of the flowers planted on the sidewalks. You'll also see a very rare photo of an old colonial house that once occupied the same block — a true trip back to the 19th century. We also visit the imposing building of the São Pedro Church, at the Beneficência Portuguesa, one of the oldest and most impressive chapels in the city. But the highlight of this video… ✨🕯️ THE GERMAN DOCTOR'S HOUSE 🕯️✨ One of the most mysterious and talked-about buildings in Pelotas. The Swiss doctor and alchemist Dr. Willerm (Guilherme) Reihenberg lived there, a character surrounded by legends. Called the German Doctor or Doctor of the Holes, he was described as reclusive, yet benevolent. He treated the poor for free in the basements of the house, and many believed that he cured everything with herbs and "forbidden" knowledge. After his death, he left the house to the Orphanage — and along with his belongings, he also left a will full of strange instructions. It is said that the nuns found among his possessions ritual robes, crowns, alchemy books in Latin, and even a letter where he supposedly sold his soul, in a direct parallel with the story of Goethe's Faust. Whether it was true or popular exaggeration… You decide after experiencing this place with me.
