Vertical CD players: are they more fun?
Vintage vertical CD players can be very expensive, so I dipped my toe into the water with a budget model first. The Soundesign 5044 won't win any design awards, but the appeal of the form factor is undeniable. This one was very quick to read a disc but unable to start playback. That was clearly due to a stuck pickup, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite so literally stuck. Meanwhile, the very bright VFD needed taming so I experimented with a filter.
