Kata PINAN NIDAN - Breakdown for Beginners

Pinan Nidan is the 2nd of the Pinan Kata series created and developed by Anko Itosu. This kata is often the of the first kata introduced to beginners in any of the styles of Karate influenced by Shurite, including Wado Ryu, Shotokan, Shito Ryu etc. This kata is also known as Heian Shodan (sometimes Nidan) in some Shotokan schools. Gichin Funakoshi changed the name from the more Chinese and Okinawn sounding Pinan to the more Japanese Heian. This video is specifically for beginners and covers the basic movements of the solo form of the kata and as such is not intended for more experienced practitioners.
