Ambrette is also known as Musk Mallow: Ambrette is a seed taken from a type of Hibiscus Flower. It’s quite a large yellow flower that also has a very deep dark purplish and pink center. The seeds of Ambrette are what are used to replace the usage of real deer musk. The experience of Ambrette is a very vegetal skin-like musk experience. But be warned Ambrette is much more subtle when compared to real deer musk. And also less animalic but animalic like facets can be had when combined with certain notes but I don’t experience overly animalic touches with Ambrette Seeds in perfumes. I personally love the Ambrette seeds subtleties and hence why I love this particular note. What does it smell like? What Does Ambrette Smell Like? I get a medicinal, slightly metallic, fruity, boozy, musky experience from Ambrette. And I’m hooked. It’s quite phenomenal as a smell. Apparently, it’s expensive and there is a synthetic version of it called Ambrettolide which I have smelled in my travels with a perfumer and the stuff is awesome as well. But we are focusing on Ambrette today.
