Hard hitting stats and deeply personal stories allow viewers to get to the heart of the issues. More about this video: This video supports a 30-minute documentary, 15 and Learning to Speak. Reporter Kiki King and director Wael Daniel Bogado travel to Uganda to follow the inspirational work of the sign language teachers who are trekking deep into the Ugandan countryside to transform the lives of deaf children and adults who have never been able to communicate until now. Two per cent of Uganda’s population are deaf - double the rate in the UK. Many have become deaf after contracting common diseases such as- measles, mumps and malaria. Like most deaf people in sub-Saharan Africa they have never been taught sign language and unable to communicate with others; they are trapped in their own minds. The Unreported World team meet children and adult alike as they start learning sign language, and witness the transformation they undergo as they begin to grasp the significance of what they are being taught: a way to speak with other people.
