Please turn on CC. サンライズ出雲。 東京駅と、島根県の出雲市駅を結ぶ、現在日本で唯一、毎日運行されている寝台列車です。 車内販売はありません。 けれど実は、ほとんどの人が知らない方法で、車内で温かい駅弁の朝食を食べることができます。 夜の東京を出発し、海沿いを走りながら明石海峡大橋を眺め、山陰の山間部に広がる緑に包まれる。 そして終着駅、出雲市へ。 雨に洗われた新緑が包む出雲大社は、静かで、どこか神秘的で、本当に美しい場所でした。 帰りに途中下車したのは、岡山県北部にある新見。 そこから日本一の赤字列車と呼ばれる芸備線に乗って帰省。 私の地元でもあるこの町で、両親と何十年ぶりに訪れたのは「満奇洞」。 歌人の与謝野鉄幹・晶子夫妻が「奇に満ちた洞」と詠んだことから名づけられた鍾乳洞です。 寝台列車の朝、出雲の新緑、日本一の赤字列車、そして故郷の神秘の洞窟。 サンライズ出雲の旅を、少しだけ遠回りして楽しんできました。 The Sunrise Izumo. Running between Tokyo and Izumoshi in Shimane Prefecture, it is Japan's only sleeper train that still operates every day. There is no food service on board. But there's a little-known way to enjoy a hot breakfast while you're still on the train. Leaving Tokyo at night, the train follows Japan's coastline, passes the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge at sunrise, and gradually winds its way into the lush mountains of the San'in region. Eventually, it reaches its final destination: Izumo. After the rain, Izumo Taisha was wrapped in fresh green leaves. Quiet, peaceful, and somehow mysterious—it was even more beautiful than I had imagined. On the way back, I made a stop in Niimi, a small town in northern Okayama and my hometown. From there, I took the Geibi Line, often called Japan's most unprofitable railway. Together with my parents, I returned to Maki Cave for the first time in decades. The cave was named after a phrase by the famous poet Akiko Yosano, who described it as "a cave filled with wonders." A quiet morning aboard Japan's last daily sleeper train.
