Beyond Brain: Culture, Mind and Mental Health in Anthropological Perspective - Dr. K.C. Moharana | AIF | Distinguished Guest Lecture | June 25, 2026 | 5:30PM to 6:30PM Dr. Khirod Chandra Moharana is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology, University of Allahabad, Prayagraj. He earned his PhD from IIT Delhi and was a University Gold Medalist in Anthropology from the University of Hyderabad. His teaching interests include theories of culture and society, research methodology, medical anthropology, and development anthropology. His research explores mental health, climate change, culture of consumption, sustainability, and the core anthropological question of what it means to be human. He has published journal articles, book chapters, self-learning materials for IGNOU and other open universities, MOOCs, book reviews, and creative writing. His recent works engage with menstrual taboo and women’s agency, tribal mental health, medical cosmologies, sustainable development, and human–environment relations. He also writes in Odia, especially creative writing. Recently he has published a poetry book titled Unlearning the World: Poems on Self, Society and Nature. He is also the Principal Investigator of an ICSSR-funded project on livelihood sustainability and empowerment among the Great Andamanese in the Andaman Islands.
