She Left Me High & Dry In The BoatYard | Sailing SOLO | EP50

You read that right… the boatyard drove Lindsey off the boat! Being on the hard—climbing up ladders, trudging through mud just to shower—wasn’t her idea of fun. After a couple of days she said, “I’m out!” and left me behind. That’s when I discovered an issue with our ablative bottom paint. Instead of wearing smoothly, it was flaking off in big chunks. Thankfully, the amazing team at Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine diagnosed the problem and came up with a plan to fix it. These guys are the real deal! While hauled out, we also added a fresh coat of PropSpeed—not just on the props and shafts, but also on the rudders. It’s one of our favorite products for preventing fouling and reducing drag to maximize efficiency. With the yard work done, it was time for me to take our Nordhavn N41 on a 4-day, 200-mile solo journey from Belfast to Portland, Maine. Solo sailing a 40ft boat isn’t impossible, but it takes planning and constant forward thinking. It was a fun challenge that included: • Leaving the yard after nearly two weeks on the hard • Getting a lobster trap stuck on the prop (yes, I went swimming in 50°F water!) • Visiting two incredible stops: Dolphin Marina and DiMillo’s in Portland After all that, I finally reunited with Lindsey!
