Penanaman Mangrove di Ketapang, Kab. Tangerang
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the protection and management of the national mangrove ecosystem. He made this statement while planting mangroves at the Ketapang Mangrove Park in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, on Monday (October 27, 2025). This activity is part of the implementation of Government Regulation Number 27 of 2025 concerning the Protection and Management of Mangrove Ecosystems, marking a new step in the national mangrove rehabilitation movement in Indonesia. This step also aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita (Asta Cita) mission, particularly in realizing sustainable development and a green economy that supports the welfare of the people. Arriving at the location at around 8:45 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the Vice President was greeted by the Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq; the Deputy Minister of Environment/Deputy Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Diaz Hendropriyono; and the Regent of Tangerang, Moch. Maesyal Rasyid. Prior to the planting activity, the Vice President received a brief presentation on the condition of the mangrove ecosystem and the government's ongoing coastal restoration efforts. On that occasion, the Vice President engaged in a dialogue with several local environmental activists active in coastal areas. They shared the challenges faced in preserving mangroves, such as the threat of abrasion and limited access to funding for conservation groups. "This is extraordinary, Mr. Minister. These young people are here with fresh ideas and real initiatives. I'm very pleased to hear from them directly. Earlier, several young people shared their ideas," said the Vice President. Following the dialogue, the Vice President and his entourage planted mangrove seedlings in the coastal area of Ketapang. The activity concluded with a group photo session to symbolize the spirit of cross-generational collaboration in preserving nature. On a separate occasion, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq explained that the Vice President places great importance on the sustainability of the national mangrove ecosystem, which covers more than 3.4 million hectares, the largest in the world. Of this total, approximately 750,000 hectares are known to be degraded and require immediate rehabilitation. "The Vice President is very concerned about our mangrove ecosystem. He requested that a rehabilitation funding mechanism be prepared immediately, including serious measures for the northern coast of Java, which is currently experiencing land subsidence and severe abrasion," said Hanif. Hanif added that the Vice President also emphasized the importance of cross-sector synergy in protecting coastal areas. He believes that mangroves not only serve an ecological function but also provide economic benefits to surrounding communities. He encouraged the acceleration of the planned 800,000-hectare mangrove rehabilitation program across Indonesia. "The Vice President also reaffirmed the President's commitment to ensuring that the mangrove rehabilitation funds, totaling approximately Rp 2 trillion, are optimally utilized. This year, more than 13,000 hectares of mangroves have been successfully rehabilitated, and the government will continue to expand the coverage so that the benefits can be felt by the community," Hanif added.
