Triumph Rocket 3 R Black Limited Edition | 4th Year Annual Service + Ownership Experience
My #triumphrocket3 R is an absolutely wonderful commuter if you can handle the size and torque. It’s probably one of the most reliable bikes I’ve ever owned. I do around 120 mile round trips commuting to work a week, and it never missed a beat. I still ride it year-round, except on really hot days (anything over about 38°C) — that’s when I usually switch to my e-bike for city use. As for whether it’s “too much bike” for daily use — not really, as long as you’re comfortable managing the weight and power in traffic. It’s a big machine, but surprisingly well-balanced once you’re moving. In heavy traffic, you’ll feel the mass a bit, but the torque makes overtaking and short bursts effortless. A few things to keep in mind: ► Heat – With a 2500cc engine, it naturally generates quite a bit of heat. If you live in a warm climate or spend a lot of time idling in traffic, you’ll definitely notice it. ► Comfort & ride – excellent for long stretches; it’s smooth, stable, and eats highway miles easily. Even rougher roads aren’t an issue if you keep the suspension dialed in. ► Rain riding – if you plan to ride a lot in the wet, I’d strongly recommend not doing a tail tidy. The stock setup already kicks up a lot of spray, and with a tail tidy it’s worse — everything gets totally filthy, including my back. Instead, invest in a good hugger extension kit — it makes a huge difference in keeping the rear end and your gear cleaner. ► Fuel & practicality – fuel economy isn’t the best, but that torque and power more than make up for it. Overall, it’s not “too much bike” for daily use if you respect it. The Rocket R is beautifully engineered, rock-solid reliable, and turns even a normal commute into something special. Fortunately, I found a better option on Amazon the GP Kompozit 46cm Transparent Windshield, which includes the mounting brackets. I was able to use those brackets for both screens, which saved me money and the fit is perfect. Note: My windscreen setup is a standard height of 56 cm, but there is also a touring screen option at 62 cm, which would probably suit taller riders better. Thank you, Triumph, once again for taking great care of my Rocket.
