On January 9, 2011, Iran Air Flight 277, a veteran Boeing 727-286B operating a domestic flight from Tehran to Urmia, entered its final approach in severe winter weather. Snow, low visibility, icing conditions, and a demanding instrument approach created a dangerous environment for the crew. What should have been a short routine flight quickly became a fight for survival. As the aircraft approached Urmia Airport, the crew was unable to properly establish the Boeing 727 on the ILS approach to runway 21.
