This was my first time ever stepping into New Jersey, and I took that trip straight into Newark to really experience the culture for myself. I am not talking about just driving through. I went into the environment, into the neighborhoods, into the real life of the city. Being on the East Coast, everything felt different. The energy, the movement, the way people carry themselves, it all stood out. It was a great experience because I got to see it for what it really is instead of what people assume it is. I went inside one of New Jersey’s most dangerous hoods, 8 BLK, and connected with upcoming rappers who are really trying to make a name for themselves. These are individuals who grew up on that block, who understand the environment firsthand, and who are using their talent and their voice to try to create a way out. They spoke on their stories, what it was like growing up, what they seen, what they had to adjust to, and how that shaped who they are today. At the same time, they spoke on their dreams and goals, what they are chasing, and how they are trying to build something bigger than where they come from. For me, it is bigger than just filming. It is about giving people a platform to be heard and showing the reality of different environments across the country while also highlighting the ambition and drive that exists within these communities.
