Irlands Südwesten - Entdecke die Smaragdinsel | Reisedoku

Ireland's southwest impresses with a multitude of sights, picturesque landscapes, and charming towns. On his hike in County Kerry, Bradley Mayhew combines two of Ireland's most beautiful hiking trails. While the Dingle Way offers steep cliffs with breathtaking views of the Atlantic, the Kerry Way beckons with Ireland's highest mountains. On offshore islands, at historic buildings, and in the small pubs along the way, he meets people who embody the everyday life and lifestyle of the "emerald isle." Just outside the town of Tralee, the starting point of the Dingle Way, stands the Blennerville Windmill. This 19th-century landmark is a reminder of the difficult relationship between Ireland and England. Bradley learns from his hiking guide that almost the entire southwest of Ireland was once owned by English landowners. The Dingle Way leads around the peninsula of the same name, along the beaches, and across peat bog landscapes. In the small town of Cloghane, Bradley meets hiker Tony in a pub. Together, they set off through thick fog into the most remote part of the peninsula, the coastal mountains at Brandon Point. In western Dingle, the trail passes buildings dating back to early Christian times. An archaeologist explains to Bradley how the Irish lived in the Middle Ages. The Kerry Way takes Bradley to the fishing village of Caherdaniel, from where he makes a detour to the rocky island of Skellig Michael, twelve kilometers off the coast. Back on dry land, Bradley continues his hike along an old carriage road. The route takes him over the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, a rugged and lonely mountain range, through the Black Valley to the lakes of Killarney National Park. Bradley ends his hike through Ireland's southwest at the gates of Killarney town, at a Victorian aristocratic residence. #traveldoc #documentary #tracksgermany -- Topics in this video: ▼ 00:00 Intro 01:30 Ireland's Southwest: Discover the Emerald Isle 44:04 Outro – Three times a week, you'll find the most exciting travel documentaries in German here.
