Passive Mark I vs. The RetroFlyer - Fender Rhodes Sound Comparison
In this video we compare the sound of a passive Mark I with the sound of a Retroflyer. We worked really hard to give the passive model a fair shot. Lots of volume matching. Plus the passive version is going into a $2k signal chain, while the RetroFlyer is going into an included instrument input on our Focusrite AD. Passive Signal Chain (just sort of our standard passive Rhodes thing in the studio) Hamptone JFET -- Upgraded Orban 622B -- Mohog 1176 clone. Retroflyer Signal Chain: B Room Focusrite 8PreX Instrument Preamp -- standard Logic adaptive limited. Neither samples have any post effects (reverbs, chorus etc). The big standouts are dynamic range and frequency response, particularly transient response in the high end. Put simply, it's like taking a blanket off the sound of your Rhodes. Plus the tremolo sounds super cool. More info or questions, check us at www.avionstudios.com
